"Lovely small hotel with fresh clean rooms which are very spacious:) Karen was lovely to chat to and could keep a nice conversation flowing to me noise wasn’t an issue and was very quiet this was room 22,17 and 204 I believe nice view of animals which was lovely to get up to! Generally such a nice place to be staff are wonderful."

"The food was amazing and so huge no skimping on portions here and cooked to perfection the staff are really friendly. Decor was great and in keeping with the age of the property. Toilets were extremely clean. Beer garden was well equipped and large with plenty of seating spaces. Would definitely go again."

"A lovely old house with loads of character. Very clean and tidy with a large comfy bed . We had a great night's sleep due to the house being in a quiet part of the village, parking was in the garden and only a few yards from the house door . Tea and coffee in the room and beautiful homemade short bread . Big shower and toilet both very clean. Breakfast was great with everything you wanted. I would definitely recommend to my friends and family A++"

"I have stayed here numerous times and it never disappoints. I have stayed in several different rooms all of which have been fantastic. I bring my dog lily with me each time and she gets a goodie bag, a dog bed and bowls left in the room which is really helpful for me and lily, my dog, loves it. The service is exceptional and the staff are very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this place"

"Another great stay at the Fox & Hounds. Good food, good beer and good service. I was in room 9 whoch was a very comfortable double bed. Difficult to fault, for the price, and thanks to Charlotte for making us so welcome. Hopefully we will see you all again in October."

"Used this as an overnight stop during a cycling adventure. The rooms are basic, but the essentials are all there and the bed was very comfortable. It’s located next to a service area with a Burger King, Greggs, and a well-stocked petrol station shop. Expect a little road noise given the location, but it wasn't a dealbreaker."

"We were very disappointed with our dinner here. We have been here before and enjoyed a drink in the lovely garden, so we were kean to have dinner there. After a crazy week and a weekend of being away working, we thought it was a good time to try it. After receiving an up and down look from the older server upon arrival, you would have thought we showed up topless. From there my husbands beer arrived flat and I ordered the 10oz steak with mustard fries. At £34 I expected a higher standard, of the steak and the mustard fries blows my mind (not in a good way) I am currently typing this review wirh full on hearburn because of the mustard fries (I also love mustard btw). I am two ant-acid pills down and drinking a peppermint tea. The mustard fries consist of nice fries with loads of mustard powder dumped all over them, ground breaking. I told the lovely server that they weren’t working and horrible and he said Thanks for the feedback & that he needs to try them. I then went to pay my £100 plus bill & continued discussing how horrible the mustard fries were and that they don’t work. In comes the older judgy server from earlier, she does a patronising smile and says “so they weren’t to your taste”, thanks hun, I’d like to know who’s taste they are to?! I then paid my bill with no offer of a discount or a drink on the house, when I was clearly disappointed with my meal. My husband later walked in the front room and saw a family leaving with Mrs Judgy profusely apologising to them. Funny she never apologised to us."

"We stayed here as it was a short walk from my friend’s remote location we were visiting for the wkd. In a unique village, the farmhouse has stayed loyal to its character and traditions. The double room was impeccable, the hospitality was warm and stood-out as a highlight. Both Nicky & Kevin were fascinating and very nearly became the highlights of the wkd ahead of the ‘end of summer’ celebrations we visited for! We were welcomed into the local traditions and enjoyed their lovely accommodation that focused, not just on Dartmoor/Devon but very much the village of Sampford Courtenay past and present. We both enjoyed breakfasts made predominantly from local produce - this was especially impressive. Personally, I look forward to freshly cocked breakfasts while I’m away from home - I feel I should state that I had two of, if not the best dishes to date; the cooking was perfect from every aspect. It tasted incredible. We regretted not strolling through the garden visiting the chickens that laid such fine eggs. However, the whole experience is unforgettable. A truly great stay in a very old building that had all the comforts you could wish for. A real 5⭐️"

"We had stayed here many years ago when the hotel was quite shabby although lovely. We heard it had been renovated recently so we tried it again,. The restoration has been to a very high standard without changing the character of an amazing building. We stayed in St Gertrude- again- which is a lovely triple-aspect room. The dinner was fab, the breakfast even better. Would definitely stay again."

"Po pierwsze, pub jest teraz również podwojony jako sklep wioski w ciągu dnia, naprawdę gra swoją rolę w społeczności. Oznacza to, że jest to również przydatne miejsce na zakup dostaw, czy tam pobyt czy przejazd. Przybyłem godzinę wcześniej, szczęśliwy, aby siedzieć na zewnątrz, jeśli to konieczne. Jednak pomimo wszystkiego, co się wtedy wydarzyło, pokazano mi w moim pokoju i zdolność do zakwaterowania, co bardzo doceniłem. Mój pokój był doskonały. Bardzo wygodne łóżko. Ładne i lekkie. Przestronna łazienka. Bardzo czysta. Byłem trochę zaniepokojony przybyciem drogą, jak myślałem, że będzie hałas - ale nie, nie przeszkadzało mi ruch. Byłem dość odwrócony przez deskę specjalną, to nie była oczekiwana taryfa większości pubów, mając kilka mniej zwyczajnych przedmiotów. Atmosfera w barze była wspaniała, ludzie wpadają z wioski, ogólna przyjaźń, zdecydowane poczucie, że wszyscy są doceniani. Miałem również śniadanie rano (nie wliczone) - samoobsługowy podstawowy śniadanie, które było naprawdę bardzo wygodne. Następnie, jak zaplanowano, mogłem po prostu wypuścić się i odejść. Innym punktem było wartość za pieniądze. Absolutnie super wartość. Polecam Blue Lion wszystkim, którzy chcą wspierać prawdziwie lokalny biznes qne, który chce mieć poczucie wspólnoty. Zdecydowanie mój ulubiony pobyt w trakcie spaceru."
