"Facilities: A bit old-fashioned but very clean and well-maintained. Cleanliness: Very clean, even cleaner than Mitsui. Environment: Having a balcony is amazing! The air is fresh, the scenery is unbeatable, and taking a walk by the lake during the day is simply blissful. Service: The staff are mostly Japanese and don't speak English, but check-out was super fast and the shuttle bus was very punctual. I hope to have the opportunity to return to this hotel again in the future. It has a large room, a balcony, is very quiet with few people, and the environment is exceptionally beautiful."

"This is my first time to stay in this super hotel. The hotel is very close to the station and easy to access. The room is big enough for one person and I really like to the big square table in my room. The service is nice and you can select your own pillow. Free soft drink is available in certain period. The variety of the breakfast is not much as other hotel I stayed before. However, the breakfast is good enough for me since it offers the food style I like most - salad, Japanese style egg, different kinds of cooked vegetables, and miso soup. I plan to stay in the same hotel next time."

"It was very clean and well-cleaned. The living environment around the station is convenient, with a medium-sized supermarket, two Seven-Elevens, and a Starbucks right next door. You can do your laundry, and toothbrushes and towels are also provided. Kyoto is a 10-minute subway ride away. It felt more convenient than many accommodations in Kyoto city. Otsu is full of nature and has a calm atmosphere. I recommend it so much that I don't want to let too many people know about it (lol). The staff were all very kind, and it was fun to have the restaurant help me check in. I'm very grateful! Very clean and well-maintained. The area around the station is super convenient—there’s a mid-sized supermarket and two 7-Elevens right next door, plus a Starbucks. Laundry is available, and they provide toothbrushes and plenty of towels. It only takes 10 minutes by subway to reach Kyoto, and honestly, it felt even more convenient than many places inside Kyoto. Otsu has a peaceful, nature-filled atmosphere that’s quite refreshing. Honestly, I almost don’t want to share this gem—worried the price might go up! Big thanks to the kind staff. Fun detail: even the restaurant team helped with check-"

"The hotel is located within the Biwako Resort area and requires a vehicle. It's a guesthouse, and the staff were very friendly. Since I stayed in a detached house, there was plenty of free parking outside, which was very convenient. The room was very clean and had a private onsen (hot spring bath)."

"As the reviews said, the large public bath was completely private. I only stayed one night, but I went there three times. I was very satisfied. Towels were available for rental, and shampoo and body soap were provided. There were also two hair dryers. The kitchen was fairly well-equipped. It would be good for people who like to cook. It only has an induction heater, not gas. There was beer and other items in the vending machine just inside the entrance. They might also sell snacks. I didn't take a good look. It's a bit of a walk from the station, but it's good value for money."

"This hotel was recommended to us by a Japanese friend. It exceeded our expectations by far. Beautiful Japanese design (combination of old and new), spacious room with all amenities, very friendly staff and free coffee/tea/wine and snacks. The good news is that it was only a short train ride from Kyoto. We were so happy to escape from all the tourists. Otsu is an authentic village with charming Local shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend to stay at hotel Koo!"

"It was a large Japanese-style room with an open-air bath, and there was also a separate room with a sunken kotatsu. It faced Lake Biwa, so the view was nice. I felt that the quality of the water in the open-air bath was good. It was viscous. However, there was nothing to hide the view, so while the view was good, I was worried that people outside might see in. However, the amenities and facilities were old-fashioned, and there were small steps in the room. The guide was very simple. The dinner was pretty good, but the breakfast was a buffet shared with the Grand Hotel, so it was crowded and uncomfortable. It was convenient that the convenience store was integrated with Lawson. Overall, it's hard to call it a high-class inn. If I'm going to pay the same price, I'd like to choose a different place next time."

"Ok. First of all leave your expectations at home expecting hotel level service. Once you've done that if you want a cheap but clean place to stay this is it. This is a seinenkan - a facility for youth and youth-related organizations to conduct independent study and recreational activities, many of which have basic accommodation facilities but higher grade facilities than youth hostels. They are located all over Japan. I stayed in a tatami mat room on a floor with shared toilet facilities. The ground floor has a large communal bath - obviously separate for male and females. They have lights out at 11 p.m. and guests must return by the same time. There is a very modern cafe onsite serving cheap breakfasts (see photos) but the cafe closes by 6 p.m. There is a convenience store 10 minutes walk away so I suggest you buy snacks and beverages en route from JR Ishiyama station. For dinner, there is a family restaurant - good value and okay food - about 6 minutes walk away. The seinenkan is located on a small island by a historic bridge. The views of the river inlet flowing into the main Lake Biwa is relaxing, lots of bird wildlife, and lots of rowers (the seinenkan is a water sports facility too). and the sunrise and sunset views are lovely. The staff are very kind. It cost me ¥5,500 for one night and I will stay there again if I have the opportunity."
