La Palma Polo Hotel - Airport Area

"Stayed one evening and then left early the next morning for next part of our trip. Was supposed to be a bit "fancy" according to our tour guide, but I found it "ok". Rooms have a bit of novelty looking onto a polo pitch I suppose, but otherwise wasn't exciting. Dinner stops around 8pm, so get there early - I was glad we weren't late. We had some decent pizza and a bottle of wine that was nice enough. My main reason for the mid-range score is this place isn't cheap, and the standard of the takeaway (we were leaving at 6am) breakfast was abysmal. Ordered one vegetarian and one normal. The veggie one had ham in.... and my non-veggie one was the cheapest white bread I've ever seen and the filling looked so cheap and nasty I threw it in the bin and bought a nice breakfast at the airport (top tip, domestic departures does a decent local style breakfast). Honestly, they should be ashamed of that food, seriously weak given they charge for the normal restaurant breakfast - which I'm sure is lovely. Grounds are nice, plenty of interesting birdlife around if you like that kind of thing (we do!)."

"This place is a gem of a romantic B&B in Quito’s Old Town. My wife and I stayed here April 19 and 20, 2007, on our first two nights in Ecuador from the US, prior to travels to the Oriente. It was the perfect choice for us. The amenities, service, and location are all first-rate. The property is a fully renovated colonial home, with four suites overlooking an indoor courtyard. The rooftop veranda offers a spectacular view of the city, not done justice on their website. All four suites are similarly equipped, with luxury bedding, large showers, satellite TV, etc. The place is filled with antiques and artwork that the owners have collected from Ecuador and from elsewhere around the world. A huge and delicious breakfast is served downstairs. Typically, this included omelets, sausage, French toast, fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, coffee & tea, and homemade baked goods – more than enough to fuel you up for a morning touring the city. Villa Colonna is well located between Plaza de la Independencia and the Basilica. We felt thoroughly safe walking the few blocks to both destinations during the day. At night, the owners arranged transport for us to Teatrum for dinner, and return. Your hosts truly try to satisfy every need, before, during, and after your stay. They helped us select dinner reservations, drove us to/from the airport, helped arrange a tour of Old Town… just can’t say enough. They speak perfect English (both lived in the US for an extended time). This place is a find, we definitely would stay here again, and heartily recommend it to others. "
