🏡 Modest but Convenient Hotel Near the Beach We stayed at this hotel in Pangkor, and overall, our experience was positive. - 📍 **Location:** It's super close to the beach and the main street with cafes and shops – you really couldn't ask for a better spot. - 🏠 **Accommodation Style:** The hotel is made up of small bungalows, each with its own entrance. Most have a little terrace with a table. It's all very simple, but clean and pleasant. - 🛏️ **Amenities:** The bedding was clean, there was always hot water, and the air conditioners were powerful. The towels, however, are quite worn out and could use replacing. - 🏊 **Pool:** There is a pool, but it looked a bit gloomy, so we didn't use it. - 👥 **Staff:** The owners are polite and friendly. No deposit is required. There's a front desk, but it's not open 24/7, which is something to keep in mind if you're checking in late. 📌 **Bottom Line:** A simple yet tidy hotel with an excellent location. It's suitable for those looking for affordable accommodation by the sea without extravagant expectations. We were happy with our stay.

On the whole of Pangkor Island, the Hornbill Retreat is the best hotel. The facilities are very new, and I particularly love the dry/wet separation in the room layout. The wash basin and shelves are set up in the middle corridor, which is very convenient to use, allowing space for luggage and various items. The row of benches outside the room is perfect for an immersive experience enjoying the mountain views and chatting with family and friends – it's fantastic. The owner personally greeted us and gave a brief introduction and arrangement. His Chinese is excellent 👍. The hotel has its own restaurant, and the complimentary breakfast is very high-end. It's open to the public for breakfast and dinner, but not lunch. Surprisingly, the prices are even cheaper than outside cafes, and the food is tastier 😋 – truly amazing! The restaurant offers sea views, and on clear days, you can even catch a beautiful sunrise!

The hotel's location is superb 👍🏻 It's connected to the large mall next door, so everything you need is right there. They even offer free late-night snacks from 11 PM to 12 AM: the unsweetened soy milk is delicious and super smooth (you can add syrup yourself), the black glutinous rice sweet soup isn't too sweet or greasy 👍🏻, and there's also plain congee (with various toppings like shredded pork floss available). It's truly impressive and makes you feel at home. The room is very clean, and the bed is incredibly comfortable for sleeping. At night, it's just a 10-minute walk to the dessert and snack street. Driving to Gaowen Street for bean sprout chicken and local specialties is super close, just a few minutes away 👍🏻 👍🏻. I'll definitely stay at this fantastic Weil Hotel again on my next trip to Ipoh. The hotel facilities are complete and comfortable, and the staff are very enthusiastic ❤️

The place is very clean, peaceful, and relaxing, making it a perfect getaway to unwind. The rooms and facilities were well maintained, and the overall atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. The food was delicious, with a good variety of choices. The staff were also friendly and helpful throughout my stay. This was our second stay here. First, a lovely lady at the front desk (apologies, I didn't catch her name tag) provided very attentive and detailed service. She proactively explained many check-in specifics and shared upgrade offers. Unfortunately, the housekeeping staff clearly missed some things and didn't thoroughly check if all in-room amenities were complete. The pillowcases weren't on the pillows, the conditioner and shower gel in the bathroom were empty, and there was only one tissue left in the box. When I called the front desk for these supplies, some were still missing when they were delivered. Hilton is a well-known upscale international hotel, and such oversights really shouldn't happen. I hope to see improvement on our next visit.

Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆ The apartment's biggest advantage is its excellent location. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés, convenience stores, and shopping options within walking distance, making it very convenient for families and larger groups. The host was responsive and replied promptly when we raised issues during our stay. Unfortunately, the cleanliness and maintenance of the property fell well below our expectations. We encountered ants throughout the apartment—including the living room, sofa, dining area, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms—which made it difficult to enjoy our stay. Although the host provided insect spray after we reported the issue, the infestation was so widespread that spraying the entire apartment was neither practical nor a comfortable solution. Several areas were dusty, the curtains had a noticeable layer of dust, and the bedsheets and toilet rolls appeared old. We were also charged RM60 for an extra bedsheet for two nights, but the condition of the bedding did not justify the additional fee. The sofa showed signs of wear, and one of the ceiling fans was noisy during operation. For larger groups, please note that when someone showers upstairs, the downstairs bathroom cannot be used properly due to water pressure issues. We were informed that this affects every unit in the building, suggesting it is a known issue rather than an isolated incident. The facilities were also disappointing. The jacuzzi was unavailable during our stay and appeared to be non-functional, making it more decorative than usable. The host initially agreed to compensate us for the cleaning fee due to the cleanliness issues, but we did not receive any further update after that. Overall, the apartment has great potential because of its strategic location, but significant improvements in cleanliness, pest control, maintenance, and facility upkeep are needed before I could recommend it to others. Pros Excellent location with many restaurants, cafés, and shops nearby. Responsive communication from the host. Cons Widespread ant infestation throughout the apartment. Dusty environment, including dusty curtains. Old bedsheets, worn furniture, and additional bedding charges that did not reflect the quality provided. Noisy ceiling fan. Water pressure issue prevents simultaneous use of upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. Jacuzzi was not usable, just a decoration. Compensation for the cleaning issue was promised but never followed up.

The room facilities were old and the soundproofing was poor. The gap under the door was quite large; after turning off the lights, the light coming through the door gap was bright enough to serve as a nightlight. The toilet in the room was faulty; it wouldn't stop flushing immediately and would automatically refill after emptying, which was a bit noisy. The location was decent, with plenty of food options and the night market not far away. The Chinese-American lady who checked me in provided excellent service.

The location is great, within walking distance to all the places I wanted to go. There are just a few areas that could use some improvement. The underground parking lot is a bit steep, so you have to drive slowly, otherwise, cars with lower clearance might scrape. The elevator is a bit slow, and sometimes it doesn't stop when you press the button, going straight up or down instead, meaning you have to wait again. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, but luckily there's plenty of great food outside.

The hotel is the most affordable place to stay in Ipoh. The room is huge and has enough space for walking, and the bed is clean and comfortable enough to sleep. There are also a few places to eat along the street and the foods nearby are cheaper compared to the city centre. On the other hand, the hotel's floor is dirty, it's difficult to walk and we feel disgusted. Furthermore, the room unprovided the fridge. Lastly, the funniest place, the room provides us an ironing board but they don't provide an iron.
