This family-run Bai guesthouse shows real care and investment in every detail, from spotless rooms to thoughtful touches that make you feel at home. Amenities here are better than anywhere else we stayed in Yunnan, and unlike listings that overpromise, this place truly delivers on cleanliness. The free shuttle to Shaxi Old Town (5-7 min) is a big plus. I was apprehensive about this hotel because the taxi couldn’t go all the way to the door step as it is within the Shaxi Old Town. But I was also filled with high expectation because the rooms were pretty expensive. The 2 young men who came to transport our luggage in a small cart work very swiftly & we were given a free upgrade because we extended another night. The architecture of the hotel was interesting and the landscaping of the pond made the whole hotel homely. The staff were mostly young men and they were exceptionally attentive to us. Their service was top notch. They helped us settle our big load of laundry in the self service dryer into the early morning because they knew we would have missed our sleep if we had to watch over our laundry. Food: The cross bridge Mee Xian breakfast was delicious. Must come to Shaxi Old Town if you come to Dali. Must stay in this hotel!

We had an enjoyable stay at Mooncreek Shaxi hotel. On arrival, the hotel staff came out to carry our luggage to the room. We were given a free upgrade to a larger room. Thank you very much. The room is very spacious. N surrounding quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed sitting in the yard to enjoy the sun. The room has floor heating and additional aircon for really chilly days. The charging socket for handphones are pretty fast when compared to our Dali hotel. It was a 5-7min walk to Shaxi town and Yujin bridge. So it was easy to grab lunch and dinner in the town. Hotel breakfast is not bad. They have Chinese set and western set for guests to choose from. N more at the buffet table. They also provide free 6 pieces of laundry per room, though it cannot be socks or underwear. The hotel helped us call the yellow tuktuk to take us to the Xianfeng bookshop. It’s a reasonable 15rmb per way. Coming back, add the WeChat of the driver and WeChat him when u are done to pick u up. Things to note: the immediate surrounding is quite run down but inside the hotel, it’s very nicely designed. Things to improve: no full length mirror in the room. N maybe a rug to instill a sense of warmth in the room. Overall a value for money hotel when you visit Shaxi!

We had an unforgettable stay here — by far the best hotel of our journey through China. From the very beginning, the owner gave us the warmest welcome. The room was beautifully decorated with great taste, and we especially enjoyed the large balcony, perfectly arranged with two chairs, a table, and even a lounge bed. The bathroom was extremely pleasant, modern and spotless, and even equipped with state-of-the-art Japanese toilets — a real luxury during our trip. The owner went far beyond our expectations: she personally accompanied us on a walk through the forest to a truly picturesque village, providing fascinating explanations along the way. She also took care of our laundry, and when it came time to pay, she kindly told us that everything was included in the price of the room. The breakfast was simply royal, with great variety and generous portions. Throughout our stay, we were constantly surprised by the generosity of the service: all drinks (including bottled orange juice), as well as fruits, pastries, and other homemade treats she offered us, were completely free of charge. This hotel is an absolute gem, and we recommend it wholeheartedly.

2024.09 We discovered a charming new homestay in Shaxi, conveniently located within walking distance of Shaxi Ancient Town, the filming location for the drama series ”Meet Yourself 去有风的地方.” During our visit, we noticed many tourists capturing photos at the various shooting locations, adding a lively atmosphere to the area. Unlike Dali Ancient Town, Shaxi feels less commercialized, which enhances its authentic charm. One of the highlights of our stay was enjoying a marvelous mushroom hotpot at Tea Horse Road; it was definitely worth every penny. The flavors were exquisite, and the experience was truly memorable. Our room was clean and well-equipped with modern bathroom amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay. However, one minor discomfort was that the toilet did not have a door, which might be a consideration for some guests. The owner of the homestay was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. They brewed a delightful welcome tea for us and provided hot milk, which was a lovely touch. Additionally, they assisted us in arranging transportation from Shaxi to Lijiang, making our travel plans much easier. I had a very pleasant stay at 沙溪归尘 and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Shaxi who is looking for a clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully run homestay. Room & Facilities The house is very clean and well maintained — everything feels new and well cared for. My room was cozy and comfortable, and the bed was especially nice, which helped me rest well. One thing I really appreciated was that the room even had a washing machine, which is a big plus for longer trips. The garden is also lovely and adds to the calm, relaxed atmosphere of the place. Breakfast & Thoughtful Touches Breakfast was prepared by the owner, and the 米线 (mixian) was honestly the best I had during my entire Yunnan trip — comforting, well-balanced, and made with care. Before bedtime, the owner even brought us a warm glass of milk 🥛, which was such a thoughtful and heart-warming gesture. Location & Morning Mist at 玉津桥 One important thing to note for travelers who plan to catch the morning mist or sunrise at 玉津桥: the homestay does not provide early-morning transfer services, only after 9:00am. The homestay is about 1.5km from 玉津桥, so it’s important to arrange your own transport in advance (for example, 小黄车). I learned this a bit late — at around 7:30am — and almost missed the sunrise timing. Walking there in the early morning was very cold and takes about 30minutes for 1.5km. Luckily, I after walked for a while I met a very kind local let’s call him “小白车师傅” who had just dropped his child at school near the homestay. He generously gave me a free ride to the bridge. Thanks to him, I managed to make it in time. Minor Miscommunication At check-in, I was told there would be unlimited transfers to Shaxi Ancient Town, so I assumed that an early drop-off closer to the town (and then walking to the bridge) might be possible. However, in the morning, the owner needed to stay back to prepare breakfast and couldn’t leave. This was a small miscommunication, and it would be helpful if early-morning transport limitations were clarified more clearly in advance. Overall Impression Other than this minor issue, my stay at 沙溪归尘 was truly pleasant. The cleanliness, comfort, homemade breakfast, and thoughtful details made it a very warm and memorable experience. I would still happily recommend this homestay and would consider staying again — just with early transport planned ahead next time.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Everything was perfect. The location is great as it is a short walk to the heart of the old town. There is vehicular access to the back door of the hotel so it was easy for luggage handling. It is also close to the Friday market. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. There was a welcome tea that included very quintessential Chinese teatime munchies. The staff were very welcoming and warm. They made sure our every need was well taken care of from the moment we arrived until our departure. We were first warmly greeted by the lovely ladies, 林妹妹 and 小妹妹 from ***** who helped to check on car booking for our tour. 小邱 greeted us every morning with warm cups of fragrant coffee. We had interesting conversation with him where we learnt a lot about Bai culture and Shaxi, including that the lane beside the hotel is part of the ancient Tea Horse Trail. 做饭张阿姨 made very tasty 饵块 noodles and she went out of her way to cater to our specific dietary request. All-in a very great experience for us.

The property is very close to one of the entrances into the old town, so it was very easy to alight the car and just walk over, as cars are not allowed in the old town. First impression of the property was great, as there was a very well maintained garden filled with flowering plants, right when you entered the doors. Eric and Joyce, the friendly and warm owners of this lovely place, were there to greet us too! Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, it was a breeze chatting and learning more about Shaxi from the two of them! This is especially convenient for tourists who are from SG, MY, who may prefer to communicate in English or Cantonese! Rooms were very clean and heaters were available. There is no air conditioning, but frankly, you will not require that at all! The main street of the old town is just a casual walk away, perhaps just 5 mins from the property. But along the way, you would certainly stop by many spots to have pictures taken as the entire place is so scenic! The houses, the vibes, the courtyards etc, everywhere you turn and look, it's just beautiful. There is no lack of places to dine at, once you are at the old town, so despite the fact that the property does not include food, you will never go hungry. All in all, it was a great experience and we would highly recommend anyone who visits Shaxi to stay over at this awesome property!
