„We had a good overall stay at Daiichi Takimotokan, a large traditional ryokan-style hotel. While the property is a little dated, it is well maintained and kept clean. The hotel itself offers plenty to do, including restaurants, a souvenir shop, simple arcade games, karaoke, massage services, a public onsen, and even a small reading area with Japanese books. You can easily spend time exploring the building without needing to go out. The location is very convenient. It is just outside the main (short) shopping street and within walking distance to Jigokudani, making it easy to explore the area. Our stay included breakfast and dinner buffet. Dinner had a wide variety of options, including popular sashimi selections and steamed snow crabs, along with both Japanese and Western dishes. Breakfast was a simpler spread but still satisfying. We stayed in a Japanese-style room and found the futons comfortable to sleep on. As we visited during winter, the room had central heating only. At times, we cooled the room by slightly opening the window to let in some cold air. Yukata robes are provided in the room (or you can choose one that fits you at the lobby), and you can wear them around the hotel when heading to the onsen, restaurants, or arcade. The public onsen area is spacious and features many different pools with various functions, so you can take your time and enjoy the experience. Just remember to wash yourself thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the onsen pools. Unfortunately, we did not try the outdoor onsen despite it being open — we were a little intimidated by the winter cold! Overall, we would recommend this hotel, especially for first-timers who want to experience staying in a traditional ryokan. Tip: There are direct buses to and from the hotel from New Chitose Airport and Sapporo. The bus stop is only about 50 metres from the hotel entrance, which made walking in the snow much easier for us. However, the service runs only once a day, so be sure to check the schedule and plan your itinerary accordingly.”

„First time stay in onsen ryotei. Very traditional room but huge! Even though it's old but quite well-maintained. My room comes with private onsen and it so worth it. I don't have to go to the public onsen and can dip into the onsen tub anytime I want. Room amenities is very well equipped. Coffee machine and dessert plus drinks are complimentary. Staff will go into your room during dinner time to prepare your futon or tatami bed. The room comes with kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Both are good especially the dinner. It's like fine dining with 10 courses. All taste magnificent and very good. Staff is very attentive too by explaining every dish served in a private room. I enjoyed the stay and food very much! Well worth money spent! This hotel located a bit deep end and public transport a bit difficult from the KTX station to the ryotei so please take a cab to and fro. That's the easiest way and the hotel staff can help to book for cab back to the KTX station too.”

„Very enjoyable stay, room was spacious and clean. Good number of hot spring pools and onsen water quality. Dinner was above average (as I had better ones at Kurokawa Onsen), it was nicely presented and the Noboribetsu pork and their sweet wine was especially delicious. Breakfast was slightly above average, just your usual Japanese western breakfast. Lots of variety and taste was okay. The lady that served us was nice and helpful. She kindly explained the dishes and how to enjoy it in fluent English.”

„The hotel seems to be renovated with good wifi coverage, and there is a smart tv in the room which one can log into Netflix account. The bedding is thin, so one will feel the floor when lying on it. Dinner may not be the most impressive, but still good value at the price point they are charging.”

„This traditional Japanese ryokan features a private onsen and is located about 8 minutes on foot from the main road with restaurants and 20 minutes from the entrance to Jigokudani (Hell Valley). The interior is beautifully maintained in classic style, with tatami flooring throughout the common areas and guest rooms, which are furnished with comfortable futon bedding. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well-equipped with amenities. Anything not already provided can be taken from the selection near the reception. Guests receive a yukata to wear around the ryokan and to the onsen. Complimentary drinks are available at reception, though they request you enjoy them in your room rather than common areas. The gender-separated onsen, while small, has everything needed for a relaxing soak. Each bathing area includes both indoor and outdoor pools, and they alternate daily between men's and women's use. During my stay, it was never crowded. One disappointment was being unable to book the in-room dinner service upon morning arrival, as it was apparently too late to arrange. Those interested should probably reserve at least a day in advance. Overall, it's a comfortable, authentic ryokan experience with superb service and good facilities.”
