Philadelphia Marriott Old City

Philadelphia City Center Philadelphia|Society Hill w odległości 0.46km
Old City Philadelphia is a good area for tourists but this Marriott may not be the best choice for lodging in the area. It is convenient to some of the historic sites like Independence Hall and it's also convenient for Headhouse Square (restaurants on South Street) and the Ritz movie theatre. But the hotel is close to I95 so you'll hear traffic unless you ask for the quiet side of the hotel. Our room had inadequate air conditioning - it was a blessing when the AC ran because it quieted the outside noise. But it ran infrequently. I was here for a conference and the conference rooms are convenient and adequate. But don't plan to dine at the hotel. At check in we were gifted with a voucher for the buffet breakfast which normally costs $17.95. Wow! First, the buffet consists of oatmeal, sausage, eggs and fruit. There are packages of bagels and bread, and some cookies. There were no extras (they were all out) for oatmeal toppings. It's all self service and I had to clean a table before sitting - I don't mind, but the attitude of the attendant I did mind. She was gruff. At one point someone dropped fruit salad on the floor and picked up the pieces of fruit but the liquid was still obvious - the attendant just threw up her hands when someone pointed to the spill - hoping to avoid a fall. The attendant just didn't care. I asked her for a bowl and she just plopped a stack next to me - no comments. Very rude. Anyone who pays $17.95 for this ”buffet” will be sorely disappointed. You can walk over to Headhouse Square, 10 minutes away, and get a great breakfast for less money at the South Street Diner. Overnight parking is expensive at the hotel. Housekeeping was sketchy at first - all I got was a refresh of the towels until I found the housekeeping manager and asked that the room be cleaned.

The important thing to note about me is that my #1 priority in a hotel is that its clean and has a bed and a shower. If you are just looking for a place to sleep than this will do. I don't generally need a lot of fuss and in those categories it excelled. The location was also great because we could leave our car parked and walk everywhere. The cost for what it was though was too high as it was just a budget hotel. Also, the refrigerator froze everything ruining my salad and not just a little, it was cold enough that it caused several sodas we had in there to burst. The drain in the tub did not drain. It was not really clear whether there was daily cleaning service or not, I know a lot of places stopped doing this during the pandemic but usually its noted somewhere or they tell you. The first day they didn't come but the second day they did come in and make our beds and leave fresh towels. This was kind of an issue because there were four of us and three towels and nowhere to hang them up. The highway was a little loud but it didn't bother us.

I have mixed reviews about this place. We visited from out of town and wanted to see all the historic aspects of Philly. The location for this hotel is perfect walking distance to most historic sites which we enjoyed! However, upon check in, we received a room with a window next to a busy street and fire station. It was so loud all the time on the second floor ( room 206) and at night and morning due to buses and emergency vehicles leaving. Bring earplugs! We immediately noticed this when we entered the room and put our stuff down and called the front desk but they would not change our room due to it being sold out. I’m don’t believe it. Had our room had bugs or bed bugs, they would have switched us immediately. The walls are pretty thin too and we had some loud neighbors with music and tv blasting at the beginning. The hotel promptly came up and took care of that for us. There is no complimentary breakfast which I knew about but figured we’d find a cafe close each morning and grab something. Don’t rely on that! There are no cafes close. The last thing I want to think about is finding breakfast after I get ready. The buffet breakfast was decent but $20 a person. And one waffle a la carte was $14. With a family, that’s just too expensive for a 4 night stay. They did have a grab and go section for small cereals but nothing filling. I enjoyed that the hotel had a parking garage but wow $44 a day!!! That’s crazy! There were very limited hotels in the city that have parking so I choose a hotel with parking and close to historic sites versus one that didn’t include breakfast. But honestly, if I had to choose again, I’d spend more money and make sure my hotel included breakfast, parking, and wasn’t close to any emergency hubs. The hotel rooms is not very updated but the lobby is. Popcorn ceilings in rooms. The tvs are just cable and not updated smart tvs. The only light in the small bathroom is the warm yellow light around the mirror. Beds were comfy. Take your money elsewhere and enjoy upgraded amenities and services.

Unbelievable how rude the bar tender “TIM” is to customers. The cost of drinks are high, the food cost is high and then you have to endure the rudeness of the bar tender. I sat there for an hour with friends and thought maybe it was only me but then noticed he did it to everyone. Snippy responses about “I have what you see on the bar” when asked do you have “this brand or that brand”. Overall he kills the experience and would not recommend going to the bar if he is tending it.
