I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had in Japan. I booked a Run of House (ROH) room for my family. The booking description stated that room sizes range from 28 to 38 square meters. Based on that description, I reasonably expected that room assignments would be allocated fairly within that range. Upon check-in, I initially asked whether it would be possible to have a room facing Huis Ten Bosch. I fully understood when I was told that a park-facing room would require an additional charge, as such rooms are often sold at a premium. However, after entering the room, I realized that I had been assigned what appeared to be the smallest and least desirable room available. At that point, I was no longer asking for a park view. I simply asked whether it would be possible to have a slightly larger room, especially since the ROH description clearly stated that room sizes range from 28 to 38 square meters. What made the experience particularly frustrating was that I had already read reviews from other guests who booked the same ROH category and received significantly better rooms. One guest mentioned being assigned a park-view room after making a request, while another guest appeared to have received one of the hotel’s best room categories despite booking ROH. When I politely asked why other guests with the same booking category seemed to receive much better room assignments while I was given the smallest room available, the front desk was unable to provide a clear explanation. Instead, I was repeatedly told that any room change would require an upgrade fee. At one point, I was even told to contact the booking platform and ask the platform to pay for the room change. This response made very little sense. I was not asking for a free upgrade. I was simply asking for transparency and consistency regarding how ROH rooms are allocated. After a lengthy discussion, the hotel eventually moved us to a slightly larger room. However, the replacement room was located on the lowest floor, at the far end of the corridor, with a partially obstructed theme park view. While I appreciated the effort, it reinforced the impression that alternative rooms were available, yet no clear explanation was ever provided regarding the original room assignment. My disappointment is not that I did not receive the best room. I fully understand that ROH bookings do not guarantee upgrades. My concern is that the hotel advertises a room size range of 28–38 square meters, creating the expectation that room assignments may reasonably vary within that range. If ROH guests are always assigned the smallest and least desirable room available, even when larger rooms remain vacant, then the hotel should simply advertise the room as 28 square meters. That would allow guests to make an informed decision before booking. For families travelling with children, room size matters. Had the listing clearly indicated that ROH guests would receive a 28-square-meter room, I would likely have selected a different room category from the beginning. The hotel itself is in a convenient location and the facilities are generally good. However, the handling of this situation left a very negative impression. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend booking a specific room category rather than ROH, so that expectations are clear from the outset.

The location is superb as it's a hotel right inside Huis Ten Bosch. At check-in, all guests receive a passport for the next day, which is a great deal. Another excellent perk for hotel guests is being able to ride popular attractions from 9 AM the following morning. I also loved being able to walk around and take photos in Huis Ten Bosch even after closing hours. Our room had four beds and was spacious, but it felt quite old. The amenities were by Laura Ashley, and having a hair scrunchie was a fantastic touch.

The front desk service is excellent, really appreciated for Ms. Kritima who helped me to open the door when I left the key card inside the room, she is very nice and proactively assisted it. By the way, Mr. Yoon is so professional to assist on self-service of luggage locker and really helpful to find out the lost item of ice nick ring after we checked out. I would like to send my great thankful to them.

This hostel has some genuinely strong points, but also several issues that stop it from being a great stay. It’s very much a mix of highs and lows. The positives: The common room is comfortable, with very good sofas and fast Wi-Fi (though it occasionally drops out — a router upgrade would easily fix this). There’s a shared kitchen with a labelled fridge, and the location is excellent for exploring Nagasaki. Dorm rooms are good value for the price. Bed spaces are a decent size, with excellent blackout curtains that block light even if others leave the lights on. You also get a small lockbox for valuables. The negatives: Check-in is fully self-service with no reception. You’re given a folder with rules and keys, but if you need help, there’s no clear support — which can be stressful, especially for travellers without phone SIMs. There is no lift. I stayed on the fourth floor, and the narrow stairs make carrying luggage difficult. Facilities per floor are also limited: only one toilet and one shower shared between multiple dorms, plus the washer and dryer on the same floor, which feels insufficient and awkward. Extras are all paid separately (towels, toothbrushes, earplugs, etc.). A towel really should be included at this price. Guests are also expected to strip their own bedsheets at checkout, which feels excessive. The common room layout could be improved. A large hammock takes up space and reduces seating — replacing it with chairs or bar seating would make the area far more usable. There were also staff or long-term workers frequently occupying the common room, which made the space feel less guest-focused. Air conditioning is locked and cannot be adjusted, so if you’re too hot or cold, you have no control. Would I stay again? As a backpacker on a very tight budget, yes — tahe location and price make it workable. But if you can afford it, I’d recommend paying more for a private room nearby. There are many hotels in the area offering much better comfort and support.

It's located on a pretty steep hill, and there isn't much commercial activity around. You'll need to take a bus to get into the city center. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel, conveniently named after the hotel itself. Make sure you get off at that stop; getting off even one or two stops earlier will mean a steep climb. It's not far from the summit of Mount Inasa, and there's a direct bus. If you miss the bus after enjoying the night view, a taxi back to the hotel is only about a 5-minute ride and reasonably priced. The hotel's own free rooftop observation deck is absolutely amazing, and enjoying a drink and the night view in the lounge is also very pleasant. There's a shuttle bus service from the hotel to Nagasaki Station. There's also a hot spring (onsen).

The location is a bit off the beaten path, making it ideal for self-driving tourists. Due to its proximity to nature, you might occasionally encounter a few insects in the rooms, but the hotel is generally clean and well-maintained. It boasts a wide array of recreational facilities, along with services such as restaurants, hot springs, and massages. The pricing is reasonable, offering good value for money, so you can easily spend a full and enjoyable vacation without leaving the hotel. I highly recommend it for families looking for a relaxing getaway!

The Guangmang Hotel is an excellent choice all around, offering great value for money. The rooms are spacious, and the decor is stylish. The outdoor hot spring, with its night views, is incredibly relaxing and therapeutic. Plus, the hotel is right next to Chinatown.

The self check-in and check-out process was quite convenient. The staff were enthusiastic and efficient, all very well-trained, which was great. The room, as always, was typically Japanese—small and compact, which I'm used to.

Stayed one night in this hotel, the interior is new and clean. The mini self service cafe at the reception is very welcoming, they even provide take away cup for guests to bring the coffee/tea to the room, I find this is a thoughtful gesture. This hotel has good variety of amenities, the room is compact and functional, good for solo travelers. There is a microwave in the room to heat up the food, and humidifier at the common area if you ever needed one. I personally like the public bath a lot, especially the outdoor pool. The room has the body wash and shampoo, other toiletries can be self service from the reception. Not forget about the location, just a stone throw away from 2 tram stations, basically you could travel around Nagasaki from these 2 tram stations. One thing worth mentioning is, the bus no 5 that goes to Inasa-yama park cable care and slope care station, is just few minutes from the hotel, which is a pleasant surprise and saves me a lot of time when I was trying to find my way to the park. Overall, I had a pleasant stay in this hotel, highly recommend it!

This is definitely one of the best hotel in Nagasaki and quite affordable. I was very perplexed how cheap this hotel was, given that it has a huge room, public bath, sauna and amazing breakfast. This said, there are some issues I had. First is that the hotel’s location requires a bit of a walk from the station, which is not bad except you may need to go to the station more frequently because there are only a few good restaurant around the hotel. The public bath was a bit dirty because so many people were using it. There were definitely things floating in the water. Except for these issues other things were good.
