„Warm, friendly staff who gave good and practical advice about the protests and safety, much appreciated . Housekeeping was impeccable and thoughtful and really prompt with adhoc requests.  Rooms are large (size norms from a different time) and the mix of analog vintage features and updated features is charming. Clear and strong WIFI , clean rooms especially for tropical setting The buffet spread is excellent quality, clean and a good mix of delicious local and international continental options.  The spa is lovely, though service can vary - I had a lovely therapist and my friend’s therapist was using her phone during the session (which is not acceptable at any massage place, what more at this spot) incongruous with the very high service and hospitality standards set by the rest of the staff. Would come back and stay here again!”

„We had a good stay at Grand Whiz Praxis. The views from our room were great but although being on the 18th floor it was very noisy, be it the streets, the neighbours or some workers drilling and hammering at 11:30 pm. Also the rooms was quite illuminated at night from the windows and hallway. Breakfast was good. The hotel seems quite new and is partly still under construction but is not really well maintained as many appliances show signs of usage. Our stay was good but I would probably choose a different hotel the next time.”

„Hotel staff not so warm and friendly. Some do not understand basic english. I was left standing for no reason. Only when i asked what am i waiting for, someone “jumped” in and served me. Room was ok. Comfy bed. I slept well. But towels are were old with frayed ends. Gross. Location is less than 10 mins to Tunjungan Plaza, a popular mall. Traffic is mad so crossing the road is challenging. No bottled water but rooms have pitchers to fill up water from Dispensers outside rooms. Good initiative.”

„Baobab Safari Resort is located quite far from Surabaya city centre, but it is definitely worth the approximately 1-hour drive from Surabaya Airport. We booked two connecting rooms, both with balconies. We were assigned to Level 4, and the view was absolutely magnificent, overlooking Mount Arjuno and Mount Welirang. Waking up to the mountain scenery was truly refreshing. Cooling weather, fresh air and beautiful scenery. Food Experience The highlight of the meals was the Nasi Rawon. The beef was very tender—soft and melt-in-the-mouth—and the soup was rich and flavourful. The portion size was generous. Other food items were acceptable but nothing particularly outstanding. For breakfast, however, the buffet spread was rather limited, especially in terms of meat and protein options. Room & Amenities The room itself looked decent but slightly dated. That said, the beautiful view more than compensated for it. One important note: do stock up on your own bottled water before arriving. The hotel uses refillable glass bottles, and unfortunately, the wooden covers of the glass containers appeared very mouldy, which was quite off-putting. Activities & Environment There are plenty of activities available. A walk through the Enchanted Forest thats full of pine trees and feeding area for Capybara, Lama, Sheep is possible, though you’ll need to take a buggy from another area. The Safari Zoo is located separately but can be arranged by the hotel. Animals around the hotel can be fed according to scheduled timings. Waterbucks, however, can be fed with carrots 🥕, which were provided by the hotel on the day of check-in. The lobby and dining areas were a standout—beautifully designed and facing the roaming animals while still maintaining a safe boundary within their designated area. Animal Welfare I have always been quite sceptical about zoo animals in Indonesia due to past negative experiences, where animal welfare did not seem well cared for. However, Baobab Safari Resort truly changed my perspective. The environment is clean, the animals appear well fed, and I frequently saw zookeepers actively present in the animal areas, feeding hay and grass to the zebras, waterbucks, buffaloes, and giraffes. It was reassuring and heartening to see such care and commitment. This experience made me believe that proper education and responsible management really do help build a better environment for zoo animals. Overall, it was a meaningful and memorable stay for my family.”

„Comfortable Stay, Though a Bit Dated I chose this hotel for my first night in Surabaya because of its top rating among premium options. While the decor feels a bit dated, the room was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well, reaching 20°C for a good night’s sleep. Breakfast was nicely presented and satisfying. Overall, a pleasant stay.”

„The only little quirk I noticed is that the walls are a bit on the thin side; I could definitely hear the staff having a chat in the hallway while I was in my room.”
