„We had an exceptional family stay at the Toyako Manseikaku Hotel Lakeside Terrace! The views of Lake Toya from our room were breathtaking.The buffet dinner and breakfast were fantastic, offering a huge variety of delicious food for everyone. A major highlight for us was relaxing in the onsen with its stunning lake view. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay, making us feel very welcome. The rooms were clean and comfortable, perfect after a day of exploring the area. We highly recommend this hotel for any family visiting Lake Toya!””

„My brief, one-night stay at Kohan Tei left me with mixed feelings. Stepping into the hotel, it was immediately clear that the property is quite dated; honestly, everything just looks worn out. This dated feel detracted from the experience, leaving the stunning lake view as the only true highlight—and even that is conditional on good weather, making it a bit hit-or-miss. The onsen was, unfortunately, a disappointment. The facility itself is small, and I found it inconvenient that they don't provide towels, requiring a trip back to the room. The biggest issue, however, was the outdoor bath: the water simply wasn't hot enough to truly relax in the cold winter air. On the positive side, I could see why the buffet dining is a big draw. Both breakfast and dinner seem popular, especially since they offer the fun option to do your own mini grill or hotpot. My only critique here is that the breakfast time felt relatively short—it was a definite rush to finish before the cutoff. Finally, the location is excellent for exploring. We enjoyed a lovely post-meal walk that stretches all the way to the ferry dock (about 3-4 km). It's a peaceful stroll with sculptures along the way, perfect for a photo or two. Overall, while the setting is beautiful, the hotel is truly due for a major renovation.”

„The hotel is really really old. If you like nostalgia kinda vibe, this is it, it feels like it has not been renovated since opening 😅 room is spacious enough for 2 person. The only thing good about this hotel is the view. It's just too pretty sitting my the window looking at the beautiful lake toya especially during sunset time. Breakfast is just alright, nothing fancy but good enough for a simple breakfast.”

„The location is the best which just one minute walking distance to the bus terminal to/from Toya Station and in front of the ferry pier. Please see my photo. Perfect location. The front desk receptionist lady was friendly. I was placed to a lake view Japanese style room. It doesn't include shower but toilet in the room and it looks like old but I love the room. The view from the room's window to Lake Toya was excellent. I love my room's window can be opened, I could see more clear to the lake view and to have fresh air from outside by opening the window. Even it was a raining day, cloudy and frosty. The view is still spotless good. The service was good. The room was clean, tidy and come with all necessity, but bath/shower excluded. However, based on the price, I was happy with it because I don't mind to use the bathroom in the onsen area on floor one. There was only two down side that I found: First, the male onsen area floor was sticky and slippery with moss (My left hand accidentally touched it and my hand was sticked with moss in outdoor onsen area) that includes indoor and outdoor area. I wish they would take more effort to the cleanliness of onsen area. Second, the suana was not available for customer to use. However, I had a fantastic sauna and onsen in 万世閣 (a hotel where is just a few minutes walk away from Toya Grand Hotel) by a paying walk in onsen fee(1300 yen) for non-resident. So, it didn't affect me much. Overall, my experience was good. I would give Toya Grand Hotel 8 out of 10. I love Toya Grand Hotel. I would recommend it.”

„Possibly the best hotel we’ve stayed in Japan. Everything was perfect and attention to detail was paid by the staff everytime. Just remember to contact the hotel in advance if you require transfer from JR Toya to the hotel. There were plenty of games to play at the hotel and the view of the lake was amazing. The lounge area has a bar for those who are into alcohol. The room was spacious and super comfortable with high quality amenities provided. The private bath was also superb. There’s a coffee grinder and drip coffee maker which was an interesting experience. Breakfast and dinner were also very delicious with top notch ingredients. Highly recommended!”

„The Windsor Hotel at Toya may boast its status as a premier 5-star luxury destination and its historic role as host of the 2008 G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, but our recent stay fell far short of expectations. Despite the grandeur of the location and its breathtaking views, the service quality was surprisingly poor for a hotel of this caliber. English communication was inconsistent and below the standard expected at an international luxury property. Housekeeping was careless—leaving a used cleaning towel on the bed after daily room service, which is simply unacceptable. When I drove to the main entrance to pick up my family, I was abruptly asked to leave immediately, even though only a few cars were present. This lack of hospitality was jarring. Additionally, being charged for extra bottled water—something even 3-star hotels offer complimentary—felt petty and out of touch with luxury norms. The most troubling experience came during checkout. Two of our international credit cards failed to process, and although we successfully paid with a third, the staff’s attitude was unprofessional. We were met with a sour expression and the word “FINALLY” once the transaction went through—an unacceptable remark that left a lasting negative impression. While the hotel’s setting is undeniably beautiful, the overall service and treatment we received did not reflect the standards of a true 5-star experience. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and works to improve both staff training and guest relations.”

„The biggest issue I have from the stay was that it was too short. The ryokan was awesome - very cosy and spacious for a double room. The place may be old, but certainly gives off the grandma’s place old but cosy vibes. Usage of the washing machine is free, and located just right outside the public bath. You can rest outside on the sofa after your bath while waiting for your laundry. The ryokan’s location is superb - walking distance to the nearest bus stop and to a bunch of convenience stores, drugstores and restaurants. As I was travelling during the long fireworks display period, the ryokan’s location is the best as the fireworks display is right behind it (or right in front of your window). The place may not be so well equipped like your typical hotel in the cities, but it’s definitely enough for simple travels. Would love to visit the place again”

„Usługa tutaj jest naprawdę następny poziomciepły, uważne i konsekwentnie przemyślane przez cały nasz pobyt. Jedno z absolutnych zalet było zestaw kolacji 8-course. Bardzo zalecam to każdemu, kto tu zostanie; jeśli nawet odwiedzisz, doświadczenie 8-course jest koniecznością. Ponieważ nie ma wiele w okolicy, wybór kolacji hotelowej jest zdecydowanie najlepszym opcją i jest warte tego. Sam hotel jest niesamowicie zimny i wypoczynkowy, idealny do rozwijania. Oni również zapewniają autobus do pobliskich atrakcji, co sprawia, że pomimo cichej lokalizacji łatwo się poruszać. Widok jest piękny, szczególnie z widokiem na otaczającą się naturę, a każdy szczegół odzwierciedla usługę najwyższej jakości i prawdziwą gościnność. Ogólnie, spokojny wycofanie z wybitnego jedzenia, oszałamiające widoki i wyjątkowe usługi. Wysoko zalecane dla każdego, kto chce się odpocząć i być dobrze dbanym.”

„This hotel operates entirely on a self-service basis, with staff rarely available to assist. It can be quite difficult at times. When you do ask for help, their tone is often impatient. The hot spring room has a strong, unpleasant odor, as if it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. The room features Japanese tatami mats, but you have to make your own bed and set up the bedding yourself. Room cleaning is basic and not very thorough, and there’s no service to speak of. Given the price, I don’t think it’s worth it at all.”
