We were only here for one night but the location is perfect as it’s right at Kumamoto Station, so it couldn't be easier to get to, and having the Amu Plaza mall right there for shopping and food was so convenient.
Being on the higher floors, the views of the city are amazing. The rooms feel very modern and spacious, but the free onsen (public bath) was the best part. It was definitely a great way to relax at the end of the day. It was handy having convenience stores, restaurants and a mall just a few steps away.
I had a great stay at this Kurokawa Onsen ryokan. The staff are very warm and hospitable and they have English speaking staff. I liked that this ryokan has 9 different options for a private onsen that you can choose from. These don’t require a reservation but are on a first come first served basis. The rooms were fine but walls are a bit thin which means you can hear outside noise more easily. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were good. This ryokan is in a good location right at the centre of town. They also have a shuttle service to get you to the bus stop at check out. Overall I would recommend this ryokan.
This hotel is really nice and conveniently located right on top of Sakura Machi mall, so there are plenty of food options and shops for shopping.
Right across the street is a pedestrian street, which is great for walking around. It’s not too crowded, so the atmosphere is quite relaxed.
There’s also a major bus stop right downstairs, which makes it super convenient—especially if you don’t have a car. If you’re traveling between cities, this is likely a main stop you’ll pass through.
For those who drive, you can find parking nearby. The hotel may offer parking discounts at certain locations, but I’m not entirely sure which ones.
The hotel itself is beautiful, modern, and smells really nice—feels new and well-maintained. Amenities are quite complete as well.
The bed and pillows were just okay, slightly leaning towards the uncomfortable side. However, the bathroom is excellent, with a separate standing shower and a small bathtub. The room I got was also quite cute, with a small sofa area, which was a nice touch.
Great stay! Clean! Love the free amenities which included soup, tea and toiletries. Microwave available too. Only downside is that the carpark is 2000 per night which is expensive. Other option is a 5 mins walk to nearby for 1200 per night for parking 2pm-12pm the next day. Remember to inform the person at the carpark they you want multiple entries to get a multiple entry card!

Wonderful hotel 🏨 ♥️ 👌
We feel it's a real 5 stars hotel; from the excellent service, the rooms and on to the dinning room, and of course the onsen, everything and everyone were just perfect!
We got a room facing the garden, forest and mountains and it was just great waking up to these views in the mornings.
The experience of food was excellent, both at breakfast and dinner...
The staff here go out if their way to make sure you have what you need, and the onsen was the best one I have seen in Japan so far; it has several hot baths, indoor and outdoor, and dry sauna.
We were extremely happy we booked this place ahead of time as it was fully booked when we arrived and there wasn't even availability to upgrade, even though it wasn't needed as the room was great already.
Thanks for everything 🙏
When I first arrived in Mitsui Garden, the staff already showed me great attitude - letting me use their lounge for free while I needed to wait for my check in time at 3pm. During my stay, all staff showed their professional and nice services. The best part came from my own room - Kumamon standard queen room. Everything was enough - the size, the atmosphere, the decoration, THE CUTE BATHROOM - made me feel like home immediately. Very close to Sakura Machi Kumamoto Shopping centre and Bus station, and Kumamoto Castle, Sakuranobaba Jousaien… all were in walking distance. Very friendly in all the ways possible I should say. 10000000/10 👏
Nice cosy hotel. Very clean and easy to check in. Convenience store just across the road. 5 mins drive to a major shopping mall. Has a small stove to cook and kitchen. But really small and dark though.
Otherwise room is very cosy and fits four of us well. Bathroom is clean and nice. Washer in the room too.
I can jog to kumamoto castle which is nearby.
Great location and great hotel.
Center of Kumamoto city, about 15 minutes away from Kumamoto station via local tram.
Very convenient, very close to the shopping street with plenty of food options.
Hotel comes with public pools where we can soak and relax .
Room is spacious.
my stay at the onset in Hanashoan was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived. we were welcome with warm hospitality that made me feel right at home. The onset itself was modern, new beautifully maintained -peaceful, serene and perfect place to relax and unwind. the traditional atmosphere, combined with the breathtaking natural surroundings, created a truly authentic and unforgettable experience.
the impeccable service provided by the staff. able to converse in English and mandarin. They were attentive, kind, and was ready to help and always assist with a smile. their professionalism and genuine care made this trip incredibly special. I am deeply grateful for their hospitaltiy and would highly recommend this onset to anyone seeking a relaxing and culturally rich getaway.

Great
MMingminnnnThe hotel is conveniently located near the city center, with shopping right downstairs. The triple room we stayed in was a decent size, but the bathroom drain had a really unpleasant, garlicky smell that I absolutely disliked. The public bath was a bit chaotic and not a hot spring; it had a strong bleach odor. You get what you pay for, I guess. The hotel's partner parking next door had a height limit, and the other partner lots were too far and not much cheaper. The next day, I just parked in the non-partner lot across the street, which was only about 200 yen more for the night.
GGuest UserIt’s the first hotel that I’ve been to in Japan that had a normal check-in procedure through the receptionist rather than a machine, and you’re greeted upon entry. The location is so perfect and considering it’s right next to the train station, I didn’t hear a thing. Also the room for the price was very comfortable and spacious!
TTravel Minds• Heart •EyesA very nice hotel with great facilities. It has a public bath, and there is also a washing machine available (chargeable), so you’ll need to prepare 100-yen coins — about 600 yen for 2 hours.
They offer free coffee, which is a nice touch. The breakfast is buffet-style with a wide variety of local Japanese dishes. I especially enjoyed the tamagoyaki (玉子烧) — I had quite a lot of it, hehe.
The tatami-style room is very comfortable. It’s also convenient to buy snacks or instant noodles/ramen and enjoy them in the room.
Overall, it was a really pleasant and enjoyable experience.
MMaggic✨An excellent hotel. The location is very convenient, a 20-minute walk from Kumamoto Station or a 10-minute tram ride.
The reception staff are courteous and attentive.
Essential items can be collected on the ground floor.
The room was on the very top floor.
The beds are large. The cleaning service is excellent, with towels changed daily.
Perhaps the only drawback is the lack of sufficient space to open a large suitcase, you have to jostle about to do so.
At one point, the room became quite stuffy, the air conditioning didn’t help with the air circulation, and the window couldn’t be opened. I realise this has been done for everyone’s safety.
Ee lianA round trip from Tenjin by bus costs 8000 yen and takes three hours! Remember to book your tickets in advance as there aren't many services. The old street in Kurokawa Onsen is very quaint and full of character! Most of the onsen ryokans are built along the creek. The ryokans are simple and clean! In the open-air onsen, you can listen to the gentle flow of the stream and feel that sense of tranquility. In the evening, during the illumination season, walking around in a yukata and geta (wooden clogs) is truly delightful! The kaiseki dinner featured exquisite and unique dishes, including local horse meat and wagyu beef! It was very filling, even for a woman! Please note that the restaurant intentionally doesn't have Wi-Fi; the owner hopes guests can quietly enjoy their meal without disturbance! I absolutely applaud this! The ryokan also offers a shuttle service to Kurokawa Onsen Station, which is a 5-minute drive away. Next time, I plan to stay in Kurokawa Onsen for two days to fully enjoy the peace and quiet!
HHJHKI love almost everything about this ryokan - the facility, the room( it’s a massive suite with living room,
Bedroom, private onsen and private bathroom etc. very spacious) the outdoor onsen, the private onsen…
The highlight is the food! Absolutely amazing! It’s seasonal and high quality with horse sashimi, tuna toro, even the starter is delicate and delicious; and two types of local wagyu beef - melt in your mouth. We have been to many ryokans over the years, with some charging double the price than we paid here, and I would say this is one of our favourite.
Our waiter was a lovely young man who can speak good Chinese and tell us about his recent trip to HK. We adore him.
I used the massage chair a lot every time after the onsen bath. It’s heavenly. We went to another ryokan (深山山莊)afterwards in the same area and it can’t compare to this level of comfort or food quality.
The only one slight con is that our room has no view as it’s surrounded by the walk path and buildings, and we have to keep it shut the whole time. Maybe because I booked last minute and can only have the last room. But the public outdoor onsen is looking into the stream, it’s beautiful.
Another highlight is the massage chair in the suite.

Kkronodmo mulalaI had an enchanting two-night stay at this hotel, where the picturesque view of the river from my room added a serene touch to the experience. The included breakfast and dinner were nothing short of fantastic, offering a delightful journey through Japanese cuisine. The attentive service further elevated my stay.
The onsen was a highlight, boasting a spacious interior and a tranquil outdoor area. The immersion in the calming waters was a rejuvenating experience, and the overall ambiance added a profound sense of relaxation to my stay. Highly recommend for those seeking a blend of natural beauty, exceptional food, and attentive service.
GGuest UserThe main plus this location , if you want to be quiet alone with nature ... Early in the morning even the deer breakfasted opposite our terrace 🦌 The common swimming pools were very much liked , the water was hot as you wanted . The room in Japanese style was taken and it corresponds to the mood , I wanted to enter Japanese culture . The hotel owners helped us in this 🙏 All staff very kind . Food is very delicious , for two nights different menus . Thank you the chef of the chef 🙏 It was my birthday and I spent a great time . The Recan fulfilled our expectations 💫
MmscooolLocation was convenient to reach tourist spots. Room was comfortable, with daily cleanup service. Staff were hospitable, albeit a little robotic (aka just doing their job). They also provide a free Kumamoto postcard and mailing services. Private parking was available at 1,300 yen per day. Carpark staff were professional and more genuine. The elevator style parking lot was interesting. The breakfast spread was of good variety and had small changes everyday, so it’s not boring. However, the staff strictly enforced the food retrieval timings, so better to go early and plate the food you want before they remove the food trays.
